Military Holiday Parties by Andy Karpf

Over the past few years, I have been lucky enough to participate with our local Joining Forces Community.  One of the benefits of this participation is that I assist with the local Military Family Holiday Party Events.

On October 26th, we did our Annual Haunted Armory Party for the local Military and their families.  We had over 1250 Military members and their families in attendance.  This is over double what we had last year.  This year’s event was a great success by any measure.   Some of the many events that took place were the Haunted Lockers, Sumo Wrestling, Archery, Costume Contests, Chili Cook-off, Trunk r Treat, Face Painting, Balloon Artists, Fun Filled Games and Free Food for all.   I was lucky enough to be named co-chairperson for this Haunted Armory and both I and my co-chairperson, Debby Johnson of Stearns Lending, greatly enjoyed our experience running this large scale event.

Our next event was on December 8th, Breakfast with Santa.  This event was also well attended with over 1300 Military members and their families.  This was also more than double last year.  Some of the highlights of this event included Free Family Photos, Free Photos with Santa, Free Gifts for all children, Free Breakfast for all, Holiday Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, Letters to Santa and Military Members away from home.  Breakfast with Santa is the only time some of these Military Families will be able to provide gifts for their children as many of them do not have jobs in our current economy so it is very important that they are fully supported at this time of year.  This party was also a great success and a great time was had by all.

Our local Joining Forces Committee includes the following members; Operation Homefront Nevada, American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, American Legion Auxiliary, USO Las Vegas, Howard Johnson Hotels, Farmer’s Insurance Group, National Guard Family Assistance, National Guard Child and Youth Program of Nevada, Andy Karpf – Universal Realty and Debra Johnson – Stearns Lending.  Without the participation of all of these local charities and businesses none of these fantastic events for our local Military Families would be possible.  If you have any interest in assisting with any of our future events please contact me at 702-400-9440.

Our next Joining Forces Event will be our Eggstravaganza, which will take place on March 23, 2013.
