It’s hiking season here in southern Nevada and on Saturday a visiting friend and I decided to go to Anniversary Narrows, a slot canyon near Lake Mead. It’s located at milepost 16 off the North Shore Drive along Lake Mead. There’s a dirt road to the unmarked trail head, a little over 2 miles, but manageable with a car if it has relatively good clearance. You walk up a wash to the entrance to the canyon. Along the way are abandoned mine entrances and materials. The canyon itself is pretty long and just gorgeous. The pictures really do not do it justice. There is some minor rock scrambling in a couple of places. Since it’s a slot canyon we were out of the sun most of the time, making this a good shoulder season hike. The hike is a bit over 2 and a half miles round trip. and it’s barely a 45 minute drive from Henderson or Las Vegas, so pack a picnic, some water and check it out. We weren’t disappointed.
