I was lucky enough to be able to participate once again in this year’s Haunted Harvest Festival. This is an annual event that is put on by our local Joining Forces Committee members of which I am a part of. The Joining Forces Committee is a group of local businesses that are geared towards helping our local Veterans. Some are non-profit like the USO and Operation Homefront and others are just members of the community that want to assist our Veterans in any way possible like myself and Debby Johnson of Stearns Lending.
We had over 1000 people attend the event this year with many different activities for the children including a haunted house, costume contests, carnival games, food, candy and fun for all.
Prior to the event the Nevada National Guard Child and Youth Program Coordinator presented me with a special award for all of the years of service that I have been able to provide to them. It was a very special moment for me and something that I will always treasure. Being their volunteer coordinator for all of our large scale events throughout the years takes a lot of time and energy but seeing all of the smiling faces on our military children more than makes up for it. I love the friends and relationships that they have been able to provide and nothing can replace the way the happy children make me feel.
I will hopefully be able to continue this relationship for years to come.
If you know of any military family or organization that would like to be a part of our festivities in the future please let me know.
