Olga and I took a strenuous hike last weekend. We went up to the top of Black Mountain. The hike starts in Anthem at the Shadow Canyon Trail-head.
Overall it is almost 8 miles in and out and the elevation gain is slightly over 2000 feet. This is one of the more difficult hikes we have taken locally. The views from the top were spectacular. You can see into Arizona, California and all of our Valley.
The first 3 miles are a steady but not too crazy incline and then the last 3/4 of a mile is very steep and a difficult rock scramble. It was also the most difficult part on our way down. Slippery in parts, we needed a trekking pole and a free hand to not fall.
This is a great hike for anyone that is looking for a challenge in our Valley. If you want more information on this hike just give me a call or send an email.
